POP-UP FOLKLORIQUE
2022
In her choreography ‘Pop-Up Folklorique’, Véronique Langlott takes a critical look at the cultural construction, symbolism and ideology of folk dances. The piece moves through the past and present into the future: based on the most-clicked YouTube videos, ‘Pop-Up Folklorique’ looks behind the façade of folk dance and examines the recipe for a successful folk dance.
On stage, four performers slip from one role to the next, jumping from one folk dance to another, changing from costume to costume and embarking on a search for the new folk dance of today. By constructing its own folk dance, the piece ultimately negates itself.
